The Spirit Ship structure commemorates the ship builders who worked at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. You can find it at the top of the Preserve, looking like it is about to sail into San Pablo Bay and into the sunset. It is peaceful and strange there by itself. Sometimes it rests quietly, and other times, on windier days, the metal tags clank and resonate against its frame, and it sounds like ghosts working on a ship much larger and heavier than this one.
